3 Tips to Wrap up Your Week

So, it’s Friday afternoon and your work week is coming to an end...but is it really? Do you have systems & boundaries in place so that you can walk away at some point on Friday (or whenever your office hours end) and actually enjoy some time off?

Here are some best practices to wrap up your week and be able to enjoy & recharge with some time off!

1. Review your calendar, move anything that didn’t get accomplished to the first thing next week….make it a priority or you’ll keep putting it off.

No matter how focused you try to be, there are always tasks that keep getting pushed to the bottom of the pile. Usually it’s because it’s stuff you just don’t want to do, no matter how important it is. So that means they get moved to the next week. Best practice? Put them in your priority list for Monday. Just get them out of the way so you can move on to the things you want to do for the week. You know, kinda like eating your vegetables first, then you can enjoy that steak!

Then, do you notice the same tasks or type of tasks getting pushed every week? Is that something you can outsource? Maybe it’s time to hire someone to do that mundane task for you. That way you know it’s getting done in a timely manner, and you get to focus on the rest of your business without feeling guilty for continuing to ignore certain tasks.

2. Get your email to Inbox Zero

What does that mean? It means every email in your inbox has been addressed. There may still be some emails in there, but they’ve all been read, addressed, and labeled. You can read more about attaining Inbox Zero here…

3. Turn off notifications for business stuff...if you don’t take time to recharge, the next week will be overwhelming.

I actually have most business only apps turned off for notifications on my phone. Because generally, if I’m not at my computer, I’m really not available. And I have my phone on Do Not Disturb from 10pm to 7 am every day. So at the very least, I’m not getting ANY notifications at night, or before I’m really awake in the morning. I am very intentional about not working outside of my office hours. Because I know that if I don’t intentionally make time for the rest of my life, my business could consume me.

Shutting down work and focusing on the rest of your life takes being very intentional about your choices. And that’s what they are, choices. You can choose to read that email, or send that text, or check that social media post...or you can choose to be present for your significant other, your children, or even just for yourself. I promise, your business will be there in the morning, but how many mornings do you have left with your kids? Yes, that one client may move on because you didn’t respond within 5 minutes, but is that someone you really want to work with anyway? Someone that can’t respect your time. Someone that thinks their problem is more important than dinner with your family. I vote NO. I establish my boundaries early on in my client relationships. And I’m not afraid to tell a client “No”, or that I’ll get to this task tomorrow.

I’ll share more about “Living Intentionally” in the coming weeks, so make sure you’re signed up for my email list so you don’t miss out!

So that’s how I wrap up my week. And I’m able to walk away from my work week knowing it will be there Monday, but for the next 60ish hours, I’m off work and that’s ok.

How about you? Do you shut work off at the end of your week? What helps you end your week so you’re ready for a new one?

I’d love to hear your ideas!
